Tomstar fans are the most toxic ones in the fandom right now
Is it because they're upset over how Tom and Star broke up?
Perhaps, though honestly I was content with how they broke up.
Even in Season 3, you could tell there was a rift between them, and it had to do with the way each of them wanted their relationship to go, with both being very bad in how it went. Tom was too clingy of Star, wanting to spend time with her every single chance he could get, literally not being able to enjoy himself without her around (as seen in "Junkin' Janna"), and trying to push their relationship to places Star wasn't exactly ready for yet (such as "cuddling" in "Monster Bash" - hell, even Marco thought that was a little too PG-13). Star, meanwhile, was too deadset on her responsibilities to properly spend time with him, and thus unintentionally ignored him. This only became exacerbated when Star's feelings for the one person whose JOB it was to be with her at all times (Marco) continued to linger, and Tom became anxious and tried to one-up his best friend (as shown in "Is Another Mystery").
At the least, Tom decided to hold it out until the time finally came for Star to finally be free of her responsibilities. And when that time came in "Doop-Doop", Star TRIED to focus on him for once. However, it was then that she realized the truth. Star had never really known what life was like outside of her responsibilities, and even though she was grateful for no longer having them, she was so used to them that the thought of doing literally anything else scared her, hence why she needed time to figure things out. Additionally, the only time she DID have that freedom was when she was living on Earth with Marco, hence why she went back to living with him. And for Tom, this was the last straw, since deep down she just couldn't find it within herself to be with him all day, every day, and in turn, he couldn't bring himself to NOT be with her all day, every day. This is why I feel that those who say "Tom deserves better" are really missing the point, since while he changed himself so much for the better, he's equally at fault in this situation.
So yeah, TomStar's breakup was handled well. Kellco on the other hand...
