For some the troubles come in doubles, in sadness greatly steeped.
And drawing balls upon the walls is Dirhhennia the Heaped.
―Royal family inscription[src]

Dirhhennia Butterfly, also known as Dirhhennia the Heaped, is a former princess of the Kingdom of Mewni,[2][1] the firstborn child of Festivia Butterfly, the older sister of Crescenta Butterfly, and Star Butterfly's fifth great-aunt. She is first mentioned in Star and Marco's Guide to Mastering Every Dimension, and her history is expanded upon in Star vs. the Forces of Evil: The Magic Book of Spells.

Appearance[]

Dirhhennia is a short, pale-skinned woman with black, bushy, waist-length hair, hazelnut eyes, and pine cone gray-colored sphere-shaped marks on her cheeks. She wears a purple dress, a dark lime-green cloak, black shoes, a spiked purple wristband, and a gold crown with a purple diamond in the center. She is 4' 2" (1.27 m) tall.[1]

Personality[]

Dirhhennia was a very gloomy and morose person who paid little attention to personal grooming. She spent much of her time writing sad poetry, and she had a strange obsession with balls. She was also known to be quite lazy, making sounds to make her mother think she was practicing magic. Dirhhennia cared little for the life of luxury that came with being a princess, preferring to to live in nature with Chad.

History[]

Note: The following information is from Star vs. the Forces of Evil: The Magic Book of Spells.

Like Jushtin Butterfly, Dirhhennia's time as heir to the throne of Mewni was very brief. Dirhhennia was born to Queen Festivia and her consort Prince Musty Mountains, three years before her younger sister Crescenta, Festivia's second-born daughter. As Festivia's eldest daughter Dirhhennia was to be the heir apparent and so inherited the Royal Magic Wand from her mother, but unlike Festivia, Dirhhennia grew up with a very gloomy and morose personality. Paying little mind to her grooming to be Queen of Mewni, Her Highness spent most of her time drawing pictures of balls in the Magic Book of Spells and writing sad poems.

One of the few friends Dirhhennia made during the course of her life was a Mewman boy named Chad, who shared her dismal outlook. Eventually, Dirhhennia was seen as unfit to rule (especially due to her poor treatment of the magic wand), with Festivia revoking her birthright and naming Crescenta heir to the throne. Crescenta would in turn receive the wand when she herself turned 14 and became queen six years later, Festivia having abdicated the throne. Sometime after this, Dirhhennia ran off with Chad to live in the Forest of Certain Death, but they returned during Crescenta's fourth year as Queen to live in a tent in the castle gardens.[1]

In "The Tavern at the End of the Multiverse", Dirhhennia appears as a voiceless ghost inside Glossaryck's eye. In "Cleaved", she appears as a ghost again in the Realm of Magic as Star, Moon, and Eclipsa destroy the magic.

Powers and abilities[]

  • Royal Magic Wand: As Queen Festivia's original heir, Dirhhennia once wielded the royal magic wand, taking the form of a magic 8-ball wand in her possession. However, Dirhhennia showed almost no talent or interest in developing her own spells, her only notable spell being a situational invisibility spell.

Trivia[]

  • Dirhhennia's name is a portmanteau of two names:
    • "Dir" was a surname given to someone who lived on or near muddy land.
      • It could have been a shortened from "Dirham", an Arabic word from the ancient Greek "drachma", which was used as currency.
    • Hennia could originate from "henna", an anglicized version of the Arabic name "Hanna" (حَنَّة meaning "blessed").
      • Hennia could also come from the Biblical meaning of "hena", which means "troubling".
  • Dirhhennia's attributes in The Magic Book of Spells are:
    • Strength: NA
    • Intelligence: NA
    • Wisdom: NA
    • Dexterity: NA
    • Constitution: NA
    • Charisma: <3
  • According to the Book of Spells, Dirhhennia's cheek marks are shade moons, an astrological phenomenon that occurs when the moon passes between Mewni and its sun (similar to solar eclipses on Earth).
  • According to Crescenta's chapter in the Book of Spells, Dirhhennia never went through mewberty.
    • Because of this, she had a habit of floating in her sleep.
  • Dirhhennia has a fictionalized account on Soundcloud, which features various tracks of sound effects, some of which are used in the series.
