Kari Wahlgren is an American voice actress who has provided English language voices for over a hundred cartoons, anime, and video games, notably as Haruko Haruhara in FLCL, Charmcaster in Ben 10, and Ashe in Final Fantasy XII.
She provides baby Meteora Butterfly and other voices in Star vs. the Forces of Evil, including Etheria Butterfly in "Game of Flags" and Lady Scarfs-a-Lot in "The Bounce Lounge".
Early life[]
Wahlgren was born and raised in Hoisington, Kansas. She was inspired as a child by the Disney Princesses and other voices in animation. Her parents were teachers, which encouraged her to support charities and organizations that promote reading and education later in her career. On her eleventh birthday, when she and her family were in California and toured the building for Focus on the Family, she was asked to do a bit role in their radio drama Adventures in Odyssey as Gloria McCoy.
Wahlgren graduated from the University of Kansas with a BA in Theatre in 1999. She lived in Kansas City, Missouri where she did some radio spots, then moved to Los Angeles in 2000 to work on her acting career. In an interview in Lawrence Journal-World, she stated that she was not getting much on-camera work, so she shifted her energies towards voiceover work, and that her experience with dialogue and Shakespeare classes helped towards landing roles that involved various characters.
Career[]
Wahlgren's debut anime role was as Haruko Haruhara in FLCL. Her next major anime dub role was in Witch Hunter Robin as title character Robin Sena. She voiced also Lavie Head in Last Exile, Sakura Kinomoto in Bang Zoom! Entertainment's dubbing of Cardcaptor Sakura Movie 2: The Sealed Card, Fuu in Samurai Champloo, Pacifica Casull in Scrapped Princess, Anemone in Eureka Seven, Saya Otonashi in Blood+, Kagami Hiiragi in Lucky Star, Saber in Fate/zero, and Celty Sturluson in the Durarara!! series.
Wahlgren's involvement in animation voiceover took off in 2004 when she was cast as lead character Nova in the Disney/Jetix animated series Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! She would also pick up recurring villain roles such as Samantha Paine/Magness in A.T.O.M. and Charmcaster in Ben 10, the latter of which she would reprise in the show's sequels and video games. Other animation roles of Wahlgren's include Suzy Johnson in Disney's Phineas and Ferb, Shellsea in Fish Hooks, Kimmy Meisner in Sym-Bionic Titan, Tigress in Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, Allie Underhill in Kaijudo, Letta Turmond in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Jessica and other characters in Rick and Morty, and various roles as those of Priscilla Northwest in Gravity Falls, Morgan in Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja, and the Headmistress in Winx Club. In 2015, she joined the cast of The Fairly OddParents in its tenth season as Chloe Carmichael.
Wahlgren has also been involved in a number of video games. Her first voiceover role in games was in Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds as Willow Rosenberg. In 2006, she landed leading roles of Ashe in Final Fantasy XII and Shelkie in Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII. Other video game roles of Wahlgren's include the title character in Jeanne d'Arc, Jill Valentine in Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, Courtney Collins in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and Aranea Highwind in Final Fantasy XV.
In live-action works, Wahlgren starred as Tinkerbell in an independent 2003 adaptation of Peter Pan called Neverland, and she has had bit roles in Wizards of Waverly Place and Criminal Minds.
