Lyric Butterfly was the 26th Queen of the Kingdom of Mewni[1] and one of Star Butterfly's predecessors. She is mentioned in Star vs. the Forces of Evil: The Magic Book of Spells during a retelling of Skywynne Butterfly's past.
Personality[]
As implied by the retelling, Lyric is someone who doesn't have the best priorities, evident by how she chose to save the Great Book of Fashion rather than the original Magic Book of Spells, despite her daughter's begging. She is also very extravagent, preferring to host lavish parties. Additionally, she is implied to be very judgemental of Skywynne's choices, while simultaneously being very unwilling to rule the kingdom herself.
History[]
- Note: The following information is from Star vs. the Forces of Evil: The Magic Book of Spells.
When Lyric's daughter, Skywynne Butterfly, was just 17 years old, she retired from being the ruler of Mewni out of boredom. She had thrown her daughter an extravagant Wand Passing ceremony, hiring jesters, songstrels, mimes, and "not-so-trained" dragons. At some point, the dragons came loose and set fire to the stage. As they began to make their way to the castle, Skywynne begged her mother to save the Magic Book of Spells. Lyric hopped onto her wand, which was stylized to look like a broom, and rode to the castle. After several minutes, she returned with the Great Book of Fashion, which she believed to be more important. The ceremony was rescheduled to a month later, with just Lyric, Skywynne, and Lyric's husband. It was held on top of the ashes of the burnt castle.
While visiting her daughter during the reconstruction of the Magic Book of Spells, Lyric insisted that she put a picture from the Great Book of Fashion into one of the passages. While she believed that Skywynne's magical ambitions were great, she also wanted her to focus on other royal duties, such as choosing a new style for her regime. She noted that the picture that Skywynne chose seemed too slick.
After her retirement, she moved to the family's vacation home, which was located inside of a volcano. She said that the heat did wonders for her skin. Lyric returned to the castle many times with potential suitors, such as Dip Kelpbottom of Waterfolk, who she attempted to introduce several times only to be kicked out by her daughter. She continued this pursuit, once throwing a party to introduce her to potential suitors. In response, Skywynne used a spell 10 minutes into the future 16 consecutive times. During another one of her visits, she came by to inform her that she shouldn't feel obligated to fix all of Mewni's problems, which allowed Skywynne to realize that the people were taking advantage of her. When Skywynne finally married her long-time crush, Sir Gem-robin, Lyric suggested that they throw an extravagant party, but Skywynne refused this.
Powers and abilities[]
- Royal Magic Wand: As a former queen of Mewni, Lyric once possessed the Royal Magic Wand, taking the form of a broomstick. She was able to use it to fly, much like that of a fairytale witch.
