Patrick Martin Stumph, known professionally as Patrick Vaughn Stump, is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and actor best known as the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, pianist, and composer for the rock band Fall Out Boy.

He voices Ruberiot in Star vs. the Forces of Evil.

Early life[]

Stump was born in Evanston, Illinois to David Stumph, a folk singer, and Patricia (née Vaughn), an accountant. He is the youngest of three children. He grew up in Glenview, Illinois and attended Glenbrook South High School. Growing up with a passion for magic, he played the drums in various local Chicago power violence and hardcore punk bands, including Public Display Of Affection, Xgrinding processX, Patterson, and Arma Angelus. His musical idols growing up included Michael Jackson, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, and Nat King Cole.

Career[]

Stump is most well-known professionally as the lead singer and guitarist for Fall Out Boy. The band's first mini-LP, Fall Out Boy's Evening Out with Your Girlfriend, was released in March 2003 on Uprising Records, while their first full-length album, Take This to Your Grave, released on Fueled by Ramen in May of the same year. Their third studio album, From Under the Cork Tree in 2005, was the band's mainstream breakthrough. It has since been certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, with a sales total of more than 2.5 million.

As a solo artist, Stump released Soul Punk on October 18, 2011. His first EP, Truant Wave, digitally on February 22, 2011 through his own record label, Nervous Breakdance Media. As of February 2013, Soul Punk has sold 23,000 copies in the U.S. On July 18, 2016, Stump won Best Vocalist at the 2016 Alternative Press Music Awards for his efforts in Fall Out Boy.

In other acting, Stump was a guest star on the television crime-drama Law & Order in January 2008. He also made a short film in 2009 titled Moustachette, starring himself, Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz, and Yellowcard's Ryan Key. Stump guest-starred as a lab technician on a season 8 episode of House. He also made a cameo appearance in the 2008 film Sex Drive along with his Fall Out Boy bandmates.
