Princess Star Butterfly is the main protagonist of Star vs. the Forces of Evil. She is a teenage princess of the Kingdom of Mewni from another dimension sent to Earth by her royal parents after an altercation with a couple of evil monsters. She currently lives with her Earthly hosts, the Diaz family.
Personality
Star is energetic and friendly. She loves having fun, and she usually has an optimistic outlook on life. She loves to help others and whenever she sees that someone is upset, she does her best to cheer them up. She is a bit reckless, as she enjoys fighting monsters and doing wild things. Strangers, in her eyes, are just friends she hasn't met yet, and she feels bad if she hurts someone's feelings, whether intentionally or not. However, Star can be selfish, wanting attention and getting frustrated with things that bother her. Thus, she gets jealous very easily. Star has a happy-go-lucky attitude and always puts a smile on everyone's faces. She also works very hard towards her goals, so much that she'll sometimes go sleep-deprived.
Appearance
Star is a girl of medium height. She has long blonde hair that go down to her to her knees, and posh pearl pink hearts on cheeks. Usually, she wears a red hairband with devil horns and lets her hair down, though she sometimes uses her magic wand to change into other hairstyles like pigtails or ponytails.
While Star has many different outfits, she mainly wears three recurring outfits:
- She has a sea green dress with a white collar, white lace on the sleeves and bottom, and a cute light purple squid design on the front. She also wears pink and orange stockings, dark magenta boots with a rhino design, and a little yellow star-shaped side bag with a face.
- She has a turquoise, sleeveless dress with four colorful stripes on the chest, white lace on the bottom, and a white bear face on her left side towards the bottom. She also wears light sea green and bluish green-striped stockings, pink boots with white bunny faces and dark pink bottoms, and a silver bracelet with spikes.
- She has a sky blue sleeveless short dress with a tied string at the neckline. Around the waist, the dress has a peach-colored line, and a red line that is slanted towards the right. She also wears a little gray cloud-shaped bag with a face, striped blue stockings that are dark blue at the top and becoming lighter with each lower stripe, light blue sneakers with white tips, and fuzzy light blue legwarmers.
Relationships
Marco Diaz
Star and Marco hug.
Right away, when they first meet, Star sees Marco as a close friend/ally, and after he comes to accept her and her presence in his life, she admits that he is her best friend on Earth. Star, valuing and cherishing their friendship, loves hanging out with him and battling monsters with him. His more responsible outlook helps to keep them from getting into too much trouble, and she encourages him to be less cautious and more confident. When she upsets him, she tries her best to make him feel better, though sometimes it makes things worse. But she listens to him when he tells her something concerning, like when Pony Head threatens him. She appreciates Marco's help, advice, and kindness whenever she needs it, and she always finds ways to help him out when she sees she can.
Pony Head
Star and Pony Head reunite.
Star and her other best friend Pony Head love having fun and doing crazy things. Star knows Pony Head is possessive of their friendship, but she doesn't realize to what extent she is until Pony Head ditches Marco in the Amethyst Arcade and lies about it to Star. Star forgives Pony Head after she saves Marco while being doomed to go to St. Olga's.
Ludo
Star defeats Ludo.
Star and Ludo are worst enemies with each other and have apparently known each other and had this rivalry for a long time. Ludo is always trying to steal Star's wand away from her, and Star is always fighting with him because of it. Star dislikes Ludo, but she doesn't see him as a huge threat that she can't defeat.
King Butterfly

King Butterfly is Star's father. Not much is know on their relationship, but it is shown that her father deeply cares for her, as he wants the best for his daughter, even if it means her training in another dimension that is safer. He is less strict than his wife, since he promised not to tell the Queen that Star had left Earth in "Diaz Family Vacation".
Queen Butterfly
Queen Butterfly seems to have low tolerance for Star's eccentric personality, and warns her the dangers of inheriting the family wand. She nonetheless trusts her daughter, and passes on the wand, only to find out Star cannot handle the powers it holds. She, along with her husband, ends up sending Star to another dimension, Earth, in order for her to train on how to use the wand.
Tom
Tom is Star's ex-boyfriend. He still likes her, but Star clearly does not feel the same way.
Oskar
Star has a crush on Oskar, and she becomes upset that he didn't call in "Cheer up Star".
Alfonso and Ferguson
Star has befriended Marco's other two friends Alfonso and Ferguson. In "Monster Arm", they helped wake her up so she could change Marco's mutated arm back to normal.
Abilities
Star owns the royal family magic wand that gives her magical powers, though she doesn't fully understand them yet. She can create or change anything she wants with the wand.
Star also knows how to fight without the wand, either fighting physically or using a weapon, like a mace.
Trivia
- In earlier conceptual versions of the series, Star was a grade schooler who didn't have magic powers but believed she did. After someone suggested that she make Star older and have real magic powers, Daron changed her into a princess from a different dimension.[1]
- Her wardrobe consists of every color of the rainbow.
- Considering that her mother's cheeks have diamond shaped marks, it's possible that her heart shaped ones are genetic.
- She sometimes chews on the top of the wand, in somewhat of a tic.
- She has coulrophobia (a fear of clowns).
- Star is similar to Minky Momo from the first series of the Japanese anime Magical Princess Minky Momo: both girls come from another dimension, are part of royalty, were sent to Earth by their parents (but for completely different reasons: Momo was sent to Earth to save her homeland), both made a room for themselves in their home on Earth, both were given magical wands by their parents, and both girls have lost their magic at some point (However, unlike Momo, who lost her magic when a criminal shot the pendant she wore containing her wand when her pet, Mocha, was tossing it to her, Star's loss of her magic was temporary due to the fact she couldn't find her wand charger). Star also wears a headband and carries a bag like Momo, but the design of the bag and headband are different.
