At the Monster Temple, Queen Eclipsa has thrown a knighting ceremony, where all the squires, including Marco, have finally been escorted to become knights. Star congratulated Marco and gives him a new knights cape she made for him, with patches representing an event they did together. She even plans to sew in his last one once he gets his lifelong post from Sir Crandle (who looks more as a doppelgänger of Mr. Candle).

At the Monster Temple, Queen Eclipsa holds a knighting ceremony where several squires of the kingdom, including Marco, are promoted to knighthood. Star congratulates Marco and gives him a new knight's cape, with each sewn-in patch representing one of their past adventures and the last patch to be sewn in after he receives his lifelong post by Sir Crandle (a doppelganger of Mr. Candle). Crandle tells Marco that the knight duty he chooses will be for the rest of his life. Later, in Star's bedroom, Marco tells Star that he can't be a knight and live on Mewni for the rest of his life, having plans for college and a baby brother on the way. Though obviously hurt by this announcement, Star understands Marco's decision, but offhandedly calls him a quitter, and quickly leaves the room.

  +
Marco vents about his problems to Manfred (still frozen in stone since "Yada Yada Berries") while eating a candy bar, when suddenly he is abducted in a burlap sack. He and his fellow new knights, including Higgs, are taken to the Den of Knights for their inaugural "Knight Out Party" to officially welcome them to knighthood and celebrate the lifelong posts they've chosen. Marco confesses, however, that he did not choose a post and is quitting being a knight. The other knights are shocked by this and view Marco's abandonment of knighthood as an insult to generations of knight history, and Sir Stabby threatens him with torture (which Sir Crandle allows) unless he chooses a lifelong post.
In Sir Crandle's office, he handed out flyers of lifelong posts that Marco can choose from to be a knight for the rest of his life, and Marco decides to decline the offer. Marco returned back to Star's bedroom, to tell Star that he has to quit being a knight. He logically states that he cannot live on Mewni for too long since he has a baby brother coming, and he needs to start thinking about college. Star felt a little upset since she knows it's obvious that he won't stay in Mewni forever, even making it awkward for Marco by calling him a quitter, and leaves the conversation after receiving a phone call.

Meanwhile, Star vents about her problems to Manfred as well and finds Marco's unfinished candy bar on the floor. Reasoning that Marco is the only one who eats this brand of candy bar and would never leave one half-eaten, she fears something bad happened to him. When Star shares her discovery with Eclipsa, Eclipsa thinks she is worrying too much. Afraid that Marco is in danger, Star suits up in armor and prepares to go looking for him, but at the last second she realizes she's overreacting and decides to give Marco some space.
Marco then went to the kitchen, feeling guilty for hurting Star's feelings, but knowing that he had to be honest with her. He tries to discuss it with Manfred, who is still turned into stone from "Yada Yada Berries", before realizing that he's talking to a statue. He stress eats a cornplex bar, figuring that he should go find her and try to smooth things over. Then out of nowhere, Marco was covered by a burlap sack and kidnapped. He later found himself along with the other new knights, such as Higgs and Sir Cuddles, to be in the den of knights for a Knight Out Party. Hosted by their own respective knights, (minus Marco) to celebrate their squires lifelong post that they have chosen to be a knight of. Sir Cuddles eventually asked what Marco what position he chose, but Marco confessed that he quit, leaving everyone to be shocked.

Back at the Den of Knights, Marco is tied to a chair and tickle-tortured until he chooses a lifelong post. Marco tells the other knights that there is more to life than being just one thing and mentions his various accomplishments from before he was knighted, such as helping defeat Meteora and surviving for years in the treacherous Neverzone. Enraged by Marco's decision, Sir Stabby threatens to destroy the knight's cape that Star made for him. This pushes Marco over the edge; not only does he free himself from the chair he was tied to and recover his cape, but he also beats up Sir Stabby and every other knight in the room with his arms tied.
Meanwhile, Star was in the kitchen, stress eating Captian Blanchers Sugar Seeds cereal, having similar discussion as Marco with the petrified Manfred. Realizing she should be talking with Marco, she find his unfinished cornplex bar on the ground, leaving a clue for her since she knows that Marco would be the only one to eat them, and would never leave them half-eaten.

Sir Crandle questions Marco's refusal of what should be his proudest achievement, and Higgs accuses him of thinking he's too good for knighthood. Fed up with the others' inability to see his point of view, Marco opens a portal to the Neverzone and welcomes them to try it for themselves. After going into the Neverzone and spending several years training there, Higgs returns, but upon discovering she doesn't retain her muscles because of the time difference, she goes back to live there permanently.
Back at the Den of Knights, everyone was surrounding Marco, angry at him for not choosing a lifelong post, since he already kneeled for the queen. Marco explained despite being honored he didn't think staying as a knight for the rest of his life, but Old Guy made it clear he's throwing off a legacy, one that every knight made for generations. Sir Stabby threatened him to choose a lifelong post, or they will force him to choose one. Sir Crandles came by to clear it up, to prevent resorting to hurting Marco, by reading the knight's handbook, to find the rule on this turn of events. He finds that Sir Stabby was following the rule: they had to torture Marco.

A little while later, Marco finds Star watching the sunrise on the roof of her tower. She apologizes for being awkward the day before about his decision to go back to Earth. Marco says they still have some time before he leaves, and he promises to visit Star all the time after he goes back home. He even gives Star a cape similar to the one she made for him, and says even though he's going back to Earth, it doesn't mean they can't go on more adventures together. Thanking him, Star puts the cape on, the patchwork on their capes forming a heart shape.
At the Monster temple, Eclipsa was teaching Meteora how to talk through flashcards, while a somewhat panicking Star was explained about finding Marco's cornplex bar unfinished. Odd, since it's his favorite guilty pleasure snack, and unlikely would just leave it. Eclipsa thinks that Star might be over-thinking about the situation. Assuming he's in danger, Star suits up in her armor, then realizes that she's overreacting, and decides to give Marco some personal space.

Back in the Den of Knights, Marco was tied to a chair, and having his foot be tickled by Sir Crandle's ponytail. They knight, per the rules, order him to accept a lifelong post, or he would be locked in the dungeon for all eternity. Since the torture was going nowhere, Marco insisted he should just leave, but Sir Crandle asked why he can't pick a post to be in. Marco tries to explain that there is more in life than to be only one thing. Despite this "lecture", Higgs asks what him has he done in his life. He then reminded everyone that he helped save Mewni from the attack of Meteora, and mentioned events he lived through in the Neverzone. The Neverzone got many of the knights interested, the danger alluring. Angered by Marco's decision, Sir Stabby furiously pushed that if he didn't want to be a knight, then he'll take Marco's cape Star made for him, and burn it in Dragon Noodle's mouth. Marco, instantly furious with a cold rage, threatened to bash Stabby's face against every surface in the room, and wake up in the belly of the dragon.

Sir Stabby, not taking him seriously, dropped the cape in. Marco smashes the chair and kicked a piece into Sir Stabby's face, and leapt into the cape, donning it. Soon the other knights went out to attack, but Marco dodges their attack with his arms still tied up. Soon they were all defeated, even to give the threat he promised to Stabby. Marco then manage to get himself untied and proposed to leave, Sir Crandles still asked why he wants to leave being a knight since it should've been his proudest achievement. Higgs believed that he thinks he's too good to be a knight. Marco then told them to at least think to see the world in a different point a view, and even opened a portal to the Neverzone. He tried to give out a warning about the timeline, but the new knights just ignored him and all ran inside the portal. Higgs then returned out of the portal after a few seconds believing to still be stronger as she was before, only realizing everything reverts back to normal so she decides to live there permanently, as there is nothing for her in Mewni anymore.

Marco returned back to the temple end up finding Star watching the sunrise on the top of her tower. Star apologized for what she said since she knows things are going to be weird without him. Marco said there is still some time for them before he has to leave, even promising to even visit all the time. He even gave a cape he made for Star to remember him by, even if he's not around. Even though he's going back to earth, it doesn't mean they can't go on more adventures, since the lifelong post he chooses for Mewni is their friendship.

Synopsis

Star and Marco have to make some decisions about the future.

Plot

At the Monster Temple, Queen Eclipsa holds a knighting ceremony where several squires of the kingdom, including Marco, are promoted to knighthood. Star congratulates Marco and gives him a new knight's cape, with each sewn-in patch representing one of their past adventures and the last patch to be sewn in after he receives his lifelong post by Sir Crandle (a doppelganger of Mr. Candle).
