The Underworld is a sub-level kingdom of Mewni ruled by Dave and Wrathmelior Lucitor, Tom's parents, and inhabited by demons, dead beings, and a multitude of other creatures. It is seen in the opening as Star and Marco travel through various dimensions and makes its first official appearance in the episode "Blood Moon Ball".

Appearance

The environment is rocky, covered in flames, lava, stalagmites, and stalactites, and seemingly underground. In Star and Marco's Guide to Mastering Every Dimension, it is located below the sewers of Butterfly Castle and has a castle from which Tom's family rules.

According to a map in Star and Marco's Guide to Mastering Every Dimension, areas in the Underworld include the Prickly Plains, the Mountain of Boom, the Dock of Unending Torment, and the Lake of Fire. There are also multiple levels in the Underworld connected by demon-operated elevator, including a ballroom level. The lowest level houses the Severing Stone in "Curse of the Blood Moon".

Lava Lake Beach is an unmapped location of the Underworld that appears in the episode of the same name. It appears to be a normal beach, but with lava instead of water surrounding it. It also appears to have a sky in this episode, despite being underground. The Lucitors have a lake house by the beach in "Lake House Fever".

Trivia

• According to Star in Star and Marco's Guide to Mastering Every Dimension, the ruling Lucitors have a reputation for being "aggro" and supposedly "take care of lava and lost souls".
• The Underworld holds the Blood Moon Ball every 667 years.
• An event called the Soulrise occurs yearly at Lava Lake Beach, in which souls rise from the lava and shoot into the sky.
• It rains fire instead of water in the Underworld.
• The native language spoken in the Underworld is "Demon-Tongue", most notably spoken by Wrathmelior Lucitor and Relicor.
• According to Star and Marco's Guide to Mastering Every Dimension, the Lucitors are considered allies to the Butterfly Kingdom. This is further confirmed in "Club Snubbed", when Dave Lucitor threatens to break their alliance over the damage Toffee caused to the Underworld.
