Remember Stump Day?[]
Has anyone ever remembered the event last year or even looked back on this holiday episode? It was around that time of year, (basically on Saturday, Dec 2)
when Star took a chance upon making her own holiday special (or Holiday Spellcial they called it). Well, I thought
it might be something to bring back upon the sense of feeling from last year.
Specifically, this was that one part of the season, when everyone had some mixed reactions about. Although some people enjoyed it, thinking this was Star's best comedic take of the holiday season, while some didn't really liked it for it to be lacking continuity throughout the series, or being more like a "Nightmare before Christmas" scene with the whole haunted stump.
Even with me, while I can't say it's the worst episode, for what it is, the episode was pretty hilarious to watch over most at some parts, even the 2nd episode "Holiday Spellcial" was also a funny addition
.
While I did expect it to be a two-parter on the episode and it did feel awkward with some of the spells doing things they weren't supposed to do, but it's fine as it is. It is really sweet that all the magical spells consider the All-Seeing Eye spell at least now part of the family.
But I will say it's one of the weaker episodes since I'm with the continuity of what has been happening, and it's kinda sad that Star just takes in a haunted holiday instead of her actual birthday, and Worst of all, there was no way around celebrating it.
Also I remember being so frustrated with it as it was supposed to be the continuation after Monster Bash and we can really point out it does not even continue from there. Even as today I'm still thinking what is the proper place for it that is at least not after that episode.
But anyways, it has already been a whole year, and I have been giving second thoughts about the episode. Since they technically finished Season 3 entirely, it can make up just rewatch the entire season with this one placed in properly. And even now it's still pretty funny, however, it does need a little rewriting on the script, but if you want something fun (while also scary at the same time) to watch over the holidays, then this can be worth rewatching.
Though since we're on the same topic, I thought we can finally get this resolved to what part of Season 3 should it be placed upon.
For what the episode has given us.[]
- It set around the Winter time.
- The explanation of Stump Day.
- Star has turned 15 years old.
- Tad still underneath Kelly's hair
- Tom is Star's boyfriend.
- Marco now lives on Mewni
- (and even if it's not presented) the wand was still around Star's possession
- Not to mention her spells even got their own episode afterward so that also explains it.
Now for what the series has given us, including some clues[]
- From the beginning of season 1 to Starcrushed, Star spends an entire year on Earth.
- from Star Comes to Earth was already her 14th birthday, so they may have moved it to when it's not a holiday season like August or September.
- If we start from Hungry Larry, considered being a Halloween episode and then later goes forth without even the other holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas when she was already past from October.
- Meaning if Star's birthday was set around the Christmas season, she would already have a birthday on Earth and would've already been 15. Without it, then it might leave the conclusion that she could have been 16 years old.
- Other confusion in the first episode it was more of a warmer climate, in this special it was in the winter climate, so how can her birthday be set around the winter time, when from the first episode was warmer
- Learning from Heckapoo's dimension, every one of them is different, especially from Earth, so it could be the reason why the climate was different, and since Marco's hometown is Echo Creek in Los Angeles, does it really snow often there?
To the continuity of Season 3[]
- The episode was set before the event of Monster Bash and after the episode Lava Lake Beach
- before it was "Death Peck to Ponymonium" and "Night Life to Deep Dive"
- In Lava Lake Beach: Star and Tom were a couple, and Kelly and Tad broke up
- in Death Peck: was a petition signing with the Pigeons, and Ponymonium: was just to resolve with Pony Head's sisters, (which it wasn't really much with these two episodes but has an importance for season 3)
- In Night Life: to put an end to the rouge portals and Deep Dive: Resolve Star sleep magic with help from Janna and Magic from Marco
In my own opinion: I think the episode is set somewhere even before Night Life when even Star was about to sleep Marco came in before she even could warp into her butterfly form which could be one reason. Or set after Deep Dive since they might've really resolved her sleep spells and the appearance of Janna really can give how she went to the party on Mewni (since by any chance do you think Marco would really invite Janna?)
Another possible theory, is probably away the events of Monster Bash and more before the events of Skooled! /Booth Buddies. Since Star was already in a "party-hard" like mood as the episodes beforehand was being more serious about a situtaion like they all stand at the trial, finding her real identity, and Monster and Mewman not getting along.
Even after events like when Marco was getting a brother had really change her formative attitide to be more silly as once she was before.
To where it all resolve will be up to you, Hope this really fixes this whole continuity wise. What do you all think?
