Star vs. the Forces of Evil Wiki

I have been meaning to write this for a long time but I felt it only necessary.

As I only just liked SVTFOE, I never really felt it necessary to edit on this Wiki a lot. Now that something came up on the show that I felt was complete and utter BS, I felt like I need to talk about it.

Now I am a fan of Jarco and do think that Starco is boring and cliched. Now if you like Starco, that is perfectly fine, I understand where you are coming from, but to me, it seemed that for the first two seasons that while Star clearly had a crush on Marco that Marco did not share the same feelings towards her. There are several instances of this in those seasons, including that moment in the episode with King River where he bluntly tells Star's father that she is "not his girlfriend". IMO, if he stuttered or had a little bit of hesitation in his voice, like he was nervous about telling the father of his crush that he secretly likes her, then it would make a lot more sense in the narrative for him to develop a secret growing on her. I mean if that was the clear endgame from the beginning of the series, then I think they should have had scenes of him growing fonder and fonder of Star as the series progressed.

Because of the staleness and predictability of Starco, I found myself liking Jarco a lot more. I mean, it is clearly obvious that Marco has feelings for Jackie, and that Jackie is a really strong, quirky, beautiful character and that her personally along with Marco's really gelled together strongly. It was a lot like they completed each other as a couple and they seemed to both have clear feelings for each other. I mean Jackie even called Marco "adorable" and admired his tenacity, so obviously things seemed to be going well for her.

And then came the episode "Sophomore Slump". Now I had not seen it, but apart researching the episode a bit before I watched it, I read that they broke up, which was a major blow to me and a surprise especially since I hoped that Daron Nefcy would not go the Starco route. But no, they just have them break up because apparently Marco has always had feelings for Star. I am sorry, but since the hell when? He has never shown the same feelings that Star has for him ever and even if it was the plan to have Star and Marco end up together, why the hell would they have Marco and Jackie date and then break up like six episodes later? That seemed really pointless and counterproductive. I am aware that couples do break up that quick in real life and I am at least happy that they broke up on good terms, but still it just really pained me that the writers would make such a boneheaded decision like this.

And they have Marco end up with... Kelly? What? Her? Did they even share a single dialogue exchange at any point? I even forgot who the character was when I found out about this. Could they have picked a worse choice for a love interest for Marco? I mean seriously? What the hell is the point of all of it?

It's really sad because this season could have been really interesting and fascinating. Had they kept the Jackie and Marco angle and have Star ultimately realize that her love should have been unrequited, it could have been a fascinating dynamic for this love triangle. Even an episode where Star and Jackie are just in a room discussing Marco and their relationship would be freaking AMAZING. Just interlace it with the occasional joke and have the dialogue and writing correct, and it would lay to rest all these freaking shipping wars that is really starting to make SVTFOE an absolute headache.

And speaking of the ship, I have no evidence to point this out, but I have a feeling that Daron's initial plan was to have this unrequited love angle and to have Marco and Jackie stay together, but in this day and age of having so much fan interaction and the fact that the advent of social media makes us as fans able to contact the creators, I have a feeling that the legion of rampant Starco fans who want to destroy any and all other ships associated with the show and have the chosen two be together had a hand in this decision. Like maybe they were pestering Daron so much that it ultimately came down to if she continued down the path that was intended for the show that they would complain or stop watching and that she almost had to make Starco happen to appease them. She basically just throw up her hands and said, "Ugh fine. Here you go" and just made it happen. After all, "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few". I would not surprised that this would've happened behind the scenes but I have no proof of this.

Look if you like the new direction that the show is going in Season 3, then I am happy that you do. You continue loving the show. I myself have nothing against the show and even admit it is a good show, but my relationship with Star vs. has been incredibly rocky since I first started watching it and because of what is happening in the most recent season, I have decided to not watch the show anymore until the writers get a grip on what they want to tell and who they want to end up together. I have not seen anything else of the show after Sophomore Slump so I do not know if that is still the direction that the show is going, but giving Jackie the shaft like that when they could've fleshed her out and made her an even more fascinating character than she already is and build upon the relationship that she has with Marco really just rubbed me the wrong way and I will stop watching the show. Thank you Daron for making the show and giving me some great moments and good characters and comedy, but ultimately I would like to get off this ride.
